A Report On E-C Translation Of English Popular Science Text Under The Guidance Of Loyalty Rule

With the development of globalization and the boom of science and technology,the importance of popular science text translation is rising increasingly.The material of this paper deals with microbial knowledge and is excerpted from The Living Cosmos(Chapter 3 Extreme Life).In writer's scientific,accessible and humorous language,this material shows the unbelievable propagation as well as different forms of life on Earth,giving special credit for one of the most hardy life forms,like extremophiles(living in extreme conditions),which attracts the author a lot.So the author chooses this material as the translation practice and analysis.And the author takes chapter three as the analysis object,and has made a preliminary study on the translation strategy of popular science in view of the issues and perplexities encountered in the course of this translation.As one of varieties of science and technology text,the popular science text shares the same language features with the former,for both of them are objective and scientific but for the latter,the language is also popular and literary.Therefore,the author uses the loyalty rule of functional skopos theory to guide and explain the popular science text,and then analyzes popular science text's language style treatment in translation under the guidance of the rule.This translation practice report has four chapters.Firstly,the author gives a brief introduction of this translation project,and the important issues that this thesis will be focused on.Secondly,the author summarizes the task processes,including three procedures of translation(pre-task preparation;while-task translation and post-taskproofreading).Thirdly,under the guidance of loyalty rule of functional skopos theory,the author mainly deals with language style treatment in translation by combining with examples at lexical and sentential level.Finally,the author summarizes the practice report and hopes to achieve three objectives,first is to accumulate her translation experience and the second is to enhance the translation abilities.For the last one,the author hopes to popularize the knowledge of science and technology and microbiology as well.
