A Comparative Study On Cohesion Between English And Chinese Texts And Its Translation Strategies

As text linguistics developing rapidly,translation unit has been extended from static sentences to the whole text and cohesion,the core of a text,is considered as a visible wet,playing an essential role in translation studies.However,in view of the thinking and cultural differences,Chinese and English cohesion mechanism differs a lot,which directly leads to necessary discussions on appropriate translation strategies to be chosen to achieve cohesive and coherent translation based on such differences.The present thesis chooses American Black Women and Interpersonal Leadership Style,the book written by Claretha Hughes,as the analyzing case,to deplore cohesive device in grammar and figure out its E-C differences from the perspective of reference,substitution,ellipsis and conjunction in accordance with the cohesion model proposed by Halliday and Hasan while researching the specific translation strategies to draw forth the translator's textual awareness and to weave a cohesive and coherent translation in practice.
