| This report is based on one of the author’s English to Chinese consecutive interpreting tasks at the China-U.S.Entrepreneurship Forum.The author first introduces the background and requirement of the task,and then elaborates on her pre-interpreting preparation in the process description.And by referring to the results of previous studies,the author mainly divides her pre-interpreting preparation into six parts,including background information collection,thematic knowledge build-up,glossary building,speaker’s information collection,physical and mental adjustment and other preparations.Subsequently,based on case study and process analysis,the author identifies some merits and defects of her preparation by self-reflection and self-examination,and suggestions are put forward for improvement.Based on the pre-interpreting preparation description and her self-reflection,the author draws some conclusions as follows:1.Pre-interpreting preparation does help.One’s preparation can make positive effects on his/her understanding of the input and delivery of the output.2.In general,the author made extensive pre-interpreting preparation however some defects can be found in her thematic knowledge build-up,glossary building and speaker’s information collection.And suggestions for improvement are to organize the glossary and the speakers’ profile by categories for later memorization and review and to build thematic knowledge around the unfamiliar technical terms and the latest and important information of the speakers by a careful and intensive research.3.Various aspects of pre-interpreting preparation are closely connected to each other,composing an organic system.In order to make both extensive and intensive preparation,the interpreter should make a comprehensive and orderly plan and strictly execute it step by step. |
