The Application Of Skopes Theory In Thesis Translation

Among functional translation theories,Skopos Theory is the most influential one.Skopos Theory puts the purpose of translation in the first place.In other words,translation is not only the linguistic transformation of the origin language to the target language,but also an intercultural exchange activity with a clear intention in human behaviors.According to Skopos Theory,in the process of translation,three rules must be followed,namely purpose rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.In this report,the author selected the essay collection Be Faced with Hyper-Aged Society as the translation object.Be Faced with Hyper-Aged Society gives a macroscopic illustration of the definition and social influence of hyper-aged society,and puts forward the corresponding policies and measures that people should take in the face of hyper-aged society.With the social problem of hyper-aged society as the center,it also presents an in-depth analysis of the main reasons from the perspective of demography,and discusses the contingency plans and countermeasures from the aspects of society,psychology,action,policy and system.The corpus is of great social significance.Japan has gone through the aging society and is gradually developing towards the aged society.In this development trend,hyper-aged society will bring us unanticipated major problems.However,on the pessimistic side,China today is also at the entrance of hyper-aged society.Under the influence of "one-child policy",the number of newborns has been greatly reduced.At present,even if the two-child policy has been fully implemented,the growth rate of population will not be optimistic.The problem of young children will be closely linked with the decline of labor force,the weakening of social vitality and the decline of comprehensive national strength.If this trend continues,society may be in a state of destruction.In this context,the author choses Be Faced With hyper-aged S-ociety as the translation material and discusses the translation methods of thesis translation based on the translation practice.This report,under the guidance of skopos theory,takes the Chinese translation of Be Faced with Hyper-Aged Society as an example to discuss the difficulties encountered in the translation process and corresponding translation methods.This report consists of three parts.The first part introduces the background and development of skopos theory,and expounds the stylistic features as well as social and cultural background of the translation object.On this basis,this paper discusses the application of skopos theory in the translation.In the second part,the author discusses the preparation before translation,specific translation methods adopted in the translation and matters needing attention after translation.In the third part,under the guidance of skopos theory,corresponding translation methods are put forward case by case based on the problems and difficulties encountered in the process of translation.Translation examples are mainly divided into two categories:vocabulary translation and sentence translation.First,the translation method of vocabulary.Under the guidance of purpose rule in skopos theory,"formal correspondence" and "formal transformation",namely"literal translation" and "free translation",can be adopted to achieve good translation in the process of translation.As for the translation of colloquial language,it is necessary to choose appropriate strategies from the above methods to translate,so as to make Chinese readers feel close to their own cultural characteristics.Second,the translation method of sentence.In the translation of sentences,this report focuses on the translation difficulties of affectionate passive sentences and unaffectionate passive sentences,and discusses the corresponding translation methods,namely "status correspondence" and "status transformation".The subject in affectionate passive sentence is sentient beings,which contains certain emotional expression,so in the process of translation,the linguistic artistic conception of the source language must be preserved.In contrast,an unaffectionate passive subject is usually an object with no clear emotional expression,so different translation strategies should be adopted in its translation.This report analyzes the relationship between target language and source language through concrete examples and difficulties in the translation practice,and discovers that skopos theory has considerable guiding significance for thesis translation.Finally,the author draws the following conclusion:first,skopos theory is of great significance.Translators should follow purpose rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule in the process of translation to achieve good translation effect;Second,source language and target language is not completely equivalent,so translators should adopt appropriate translation methods case by case.Furthermore,in order to make target audience better understand the translation,translators should understand the social and cultural background of the target audience and relevant knowledge structure,so as to make the translation approach to the torget audience as close as possible;Thirdly,translators should improve their knowledge reserve and literacy accomplishment while enhance their language competence.In particular,it is very important to understand and study relevant knowledge and research in this field before starting translation in specific field.
