Genetically modified foods as a new food category is gradually permeating People's Daily life. Because genetically modified food is related to complicated content of science and technology, and its security has been controversial for a long time at home and abroad, consumers still have much worry about genetically modified food. Though the consumers' right to know is one of the consumers' rights and interests protected by the Law of Consumer Rights and Interests Protection in China, law does not make a detailed specifications for consumers' right to know for genetically modified food. So the consumers' right to know in the field of genetically modified food has not been fully guaranteed. Based on the analysis of consumers' right to know and its characteristics, reviewing of domestic and foreign management system of genetically modified food and the relevant laws and regulations on consumer's right to know for genetically modified foods, I found that in the field of protecting consumers' right to know for genetically modified food in China, there are some problems. For example,the information is not publicly transparent in approval stage, the requirements on genetically modified food labeling is not specific, producers do not carrying out labeling requirements according with the law. To solve these problems, I suggest to increase transparency in genetically modified organism approval stage, to ensure the implementation of the mandatory label regulation during genetically modified food marketing, and to improve consumers supervision and information disclosure system for the genetically modified food in market. I hope that my suggestion about the protection of the consumers' right to know in the field of genetically modified food will provide the beneficial reference.
