It has existed since ancient times that college students participate in university management. The mechanism which students involved in the management of colleges and universities has different characteristics under the background of different culture and ages.In recent years, with the development of China's higher education popularization stage, there is a significant increase in the number of people receiving higher education, students as the core stakeholders are in urgent need to participate in the management of colleges and universities in order to maintain and safeguard their rights. For colleges and universities, the traditional top-down internal administrative system can not adapt to the development of university itself anymore, the establishment of the modern university system, the formation of the internal governance structure, the implementation of democratic management, all need to respect the status of student in the management of colleges and universities. However, because of the lack of approach and system guarantee, students tend to be excluded from the inside of the management of colleges and universities in the real level. There is little possibility to influence management decisions. With he advent of the new media era,the development and popularization of network communication technology, new opportunities are brought for the students to participate in the management of colleges and universities.Students take use of the information platform to announce and make public opinion. They use the power of public opinion to put pressure on the school administrators so that their voice would be heard, management decisions would be influenced. Thus formed a new participation mechanism which take the new media information platform as its carrier. On the basis of reference to related research, this paper applies the method of questionnaire survey and case study to identify and improve the new participation mechanism. The part of questionnaire used random sampling method, distributed 150 questionnaires, made a descriptive statistics of the current situation of HuazhongUniversity of Science and Technology students participate in the university management. The survey found that students who participate in the management of colleges and universities are generally agree with the use of new media channels, but the effect is poor.Case analysis part chose four new media platforms include school official Wechat?school official Sina Weibo, university network information feedback platform and campus BBS as the source of typical cases of students participate in the management of colleges and universities.Case study found that the school official Wechat and school Sina Weibo platform focusing on school image promotion and service information transmission, the interaction function is weak. But, both university network information feedback platform and campus BBS have institutionalized participation mechanism, students are able to communicate with the school manager and affect the school management decisions to a certain extent.By studying the mechanism of new media platform for students to participate in the management of colleges and universities,I found that there existent participation dilemmas come from three aspects:students, school authority and technology. In terms of students, they are concept, participatory method and ability of participation;in terms of school authority, they are management concept, system and environment of participation;in terms of technology they are information security and platform regulatory and so on.Finally, on the basis of trying to break the dilemmas, this article established a comprehensive, systematic participation mechanism of new media from three aspects:system consummation, environmental construction and technical construction.
