Since the famous American cognitive psychologist Tolman put forward the ‘stressor intermediary variables-the physiological and psychological reaction'(SOR)to compensate for ‘stimulus – reaction'(S-R)by B.Watson in 1932,the research about the mediating effect of college students in the process of stress increased,which from the point of self-esteem,personality traits,coping style and social support.But these studies are not systematic and thorough enough.This study starts with six virtues to propose two hypotheses,test college students,in-depth study of the six virtues of the system as a mediating variable mediates the extent and impact of stress among college students in the process.And construct theoretical model through the analysis of the empirical data,in order to make theoretical and empirical analysis of the combination of ‘six virtues' by Seligman and ‘intermediary effect theory' by Tolman,and to provide theoretical guidance and practical experience for the research of the university students' stress in the process of the mediating effect.This study selected Xi'an Petroleum University 2015 freshmen 4201 people,randomly selected 10%,469 people as of the research object,the use of ‘Students' Life Stress Scale'and ‘virtues of character strengths Students Scale' surveying the students,data processing and analysis of the results,the results are as follows:(1)There was no significant differences in the male and female students in factors of character strengths,but dominant total mean value in the urban college students was significantly higher than that of the rural students.(2)The total mean of the girls' life stress was significantly higher than that of male students,and there was no significant difference between urban and rural groups.Families with many children stressors college students is significantly higher than the overall average of one-child families Students.(3)Character strengths to significantly relieve stress effect,ranking in the top five character strengths are: passion,self-control,perseverance,responsibility,courage.(4)Character dominance in the life stressor and stress response to play a partial intermediary role.The total forecast probability is 66%.(5)The advantages of virtue and character have a moderating effect on the stressor and stress response,and the advantages of virtue and character can buffer the negative effects of life stress.
