In1922,the Beijing government announced a new educational system,called “Renxu educational system”,changed the previous imitation of the Japanese educational system,adopting the "six-three-three" system of the United States.It had not only become an important turning point in the history of education in China,but also a symbol of the establishment of modern educational system in our country.According to the provisions of the system,the time of English education in secondary schools was much more than the Chinese education,becoming the No1.of all the subjects.Therefore,it can be said that during this period of English education in secondary schools was in the special status.And,after the school system,there is no significant change in English education in secondary schools until the establishment of new China.In this period,the middle school English education,drawing on the past experience,but also absorbed the new ideas and methods of Western foreign language education,with further development.This article's first part lists "Renxu educational system" and secondary school English curriculum standard,in order to analyze the localization and target of English education from these education policies and official documents.The second part shows the four aspects,student learning,teachers,textbooks and teaching method.In order to explain the English education in secondary schools during this period stereoscopically.This is also the main part of this article.Among them,what the first aspect presented is about the time of the students' English course,and their autonomous English learning after Class,in order to show English in students' learning life occupies an important position,far more than the native language and culture learning.The second aspect is to present the situation of teachers,which is studied from two perspectives: the amount of teachers and the quality of teaching.Although English teachers in secondary schools came from a wide range,but the number was lacked in general.From the quality,the quality of teaching is uneven,and the level is different.The third aspect is about the use of textbooks,under the premise of the Ministry of education,the textbooks were chosen by the secondary schools freely,but the actual use of these schools was all different.Then what to shown is the content and the difficulty of the textbook evaluation,to further show the secondary school English textbooks and the preparation of the characteristics and learning difficulties during the period.The fourth aspect is to present the secondary schools' English teaching method at that time,respectively discussed the translation teaching method and the direct teaching method.The third part is on the basis of these analyses of the official rules and the actual teaching,showing the achievements of middle school English education during this period,and reveals the limitations.Finally,analyze gains and losses,and summarize the realistic enlightenment about secondary schools' English education.
