As the main carrier of Chinese course teaching, Chinese textbooks not only transfer knowledge to students, but also provide a means of getting acquainted with the world and experiencing others' life for them, as well as inspire students to think about the valve of life, all of which can have a subtle influence on the formation of the students' thoughts and emotions as well as their personalities. However, in current Chinese textbooks published by People's Education Press for junior middle school students, there is still some imbalance, whether on the number of male and female characters or on the portrayal of images. Compared with the rich images of male, the female images are much monotonous and rigid in the textbooks. Middle school students are in the critical period about the formation of personality and gender consciousness, and the humanistic connotation in the Chinese textbooks has subtle and guiding influence on the students. The unbalanced phenomenon of the gender image in the teaching materials is not only not conducive to the equal and fair development for the male and female students, but also unfavorable to students to form the correct life values and gender consciousness. This thesis mainly studies the gender roles of characters in the junior middle school Chinese textbooks published by People's Education Press, analyzes the problems about the number and persona-types setting of the female characters in the language teaching material, and combines with the teaching experience to reach the multi-interpretation on part of the female images in the textbooks.First of all, on the basis of referring to the related literature and monograph, a brief introduction and explanation about the research background and theoretical basis of the paper are presented. What's more, the research objects and the choice of characters are defined by combining with the teaching experience. At the same time, the research status at home and abroad is combed, and the research methods and significance of this paper are also expounded.Then, this paper takes the experimental Chinese textbooks designed under the guidance of Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards published by PEP from 2001 to 2002 as the research object, and carries out the statistical analysis on the character images selected in the textbooks and thus it is concluded that the ration of male image and female image in current Chinese textbooks for junior middle is seriously imbalanced.Next, the situation of the teachers' and students' awareness of the imbalanced ration of the male and female roles in Chinese textbooks is presented by conducting a questionnaire survey on the teachers and students who use the teaching material directly. And the effects of gender ignore imbalances in language teaching materials on the development of students are analyzed.Last but not least, on the basis of the above research and the further thinking came from combining with teaching practice, this paper analyzes the influence of the female images in the teaching materials which build the gender consciousness for students, interprets the female images and the hidden unbalanced phenomenon of gender education in the teaching materials in multi-angle and various aspects, and discusses the teaching strategies of eliminating the unbalanced gender education.Finally, this paper carries on a summary and a reflection of the results of the study and the main viewpoint of this article, analyzes the cause of the unbalanced gender role in the teaching material, discusses how to balance the gender image of characters in Chinese textbooks for junior middle school students and puts forward the proposals and suggestions to solve this problem, so as to guide the students to form a correct concept of gender consciousness.
