The Characteristics Of Senior High School Students' Career Maturity And Its Relation With Achievement Motivation

Career maturity is an important indicator of making career planning,as well as the theoretical basis for vocational education.Super firstly proposed the concept of career maturity in 1955,and he regarded the career maturity as the developmental tasks in different stages of people's career.Later researchers defined the career maturity that differs from Super's definition,which based on various theories.Recently,some researchers have noted the importance of career planning and vocational education in colleges and universities,and they investigated the development of career maturity in college students.However,the characteristic of career maturity is still unclear in high school students.In addition,achievement motivation is an important personality.This motivation makes people set higher goals,and overcome difficulty and obtain satisfactory results and beyond the others.But the influence of achievement motivation on career is unknown.Therefore,this study investigates the characteristic of career maturity and the effect of achievement motivation on career maturity in high school students.We selected 764 high school students and measured their level of career maturity and achievement motivation using career maturity questionnaire which is applied to secondary school students and compiled by Liu Hui and achievement motivation scale by Hegtvet.This research made the following findings.1 The characteristics of senior high school students' career maturity(1)Senior school students possess middle level of career maturity.(2)The career maturity of boys is lower than girls'.(3)There are significant differences in grade in high school students' career maturity.Overall,students with higher grade showed higher level of career maturity.(4)The career maturity of high school students coming from urban or rural areas existed differences.Students living in urban areas showed higher level of career maturity than those living in rural areas.(5)Career maturity of high school students was affected by different types of schools.Students in key school possess higher level of career maturity than those in normal or vocational school.(6)The level of career maturity in senior school was affected for their fathers' educational level.Students whose fathers' educational level is higher showed higher level of career maturity than those that fathers' educational level is lower.2 The relation between career maturity and achievement motivation in senior high school studentsThe career maturity was affected by achievement motivation.In addition of utilitarian,all the factors in career maturity could be positively predicted by the level of achievement motivation in high school students.Furthermore,multple regression analyses showed that achievement motivation can significantly predict career maturity in high school students.These results suggest that career maturity in high school students is affected by achievement motivation.
