We are living in the 21st century, surrounding by visual images in every corner. Such as TV, computer, books, magazines, photography, painting, sculpture, advertising, design, construction, games, multimedia and so on, so we live in a world which is dominated by the image of the era. It is considered to be an era of visual culture. However, junior middle school students in China are lack of proper visual literacy ability, becoming new illiteracy in the era of big data-visual culture of illiteracy.This study around "the research of cultivating students'visual literacy in junior middle schools art teaching" to carry out research.The author uses literature research, analyze the art textbooks, questionnaire and interview investigation with the teachers and students to find out the junior middle school fine arts teaching in China. And I discovered the existing problems.1. Students' visual literacy is relatively lack. Some students do not even know the concept of visual literacy.2. Art teachers in the teaching of Visual Arts are not really implemented.3. The teaching contents of visual quality in the existing art teaching materials are old and lack of the times.4. No system of courses for junior middle school students of visual literacy cultivation. In the light of the problems above, we use the effective experiences and methods to develop courses. Finally, we found out the effective teaching content and ways. We wish that our research would be helpful to promote visual literacy of junior high school students in our country.
