In middle schools, history textbooks are mainly made up of two parts, including text system focusing on teaching content, namely texts of textbooks, and auxiliary system of texts that primarily reflects teaching methods. As reform of new courses was further promoted, more and more attention has been paid to the auxiliary system of texts in compiling textbooks in Mainland China, in order to highlight instrumental characteristics of textbooks. Concerning auxiliary system of texts of history textbooks in middle schools of Hong Kong, the outline is complete and the design is novel, so they are highly valuable to be used as references by Mainland China in teaching history. Therefore, Chinese History in New Horizons, a history book of senior high school published by the Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company, is exemplified in this study, to analyze the auxiliary system of texts on history textbooks of Hong Kong from the perspective of introductory text system, pre-class abstract introduction system, additional elaboration system and consolidation expansion system. A detailed introduction is made to components and roles of each system, including editing descriptions, timing, topic introduction, graphic historic data, wordy historic data and problem design. Based on analysis and research, design characteristics of auxiliary system of texts are summed up for history textbooks of senior high schools in Hong Kong. According to specific instances of history teaching, several lessons that may be drawn from senior high schools of Hong Kong by Mainland China in history teaching are discussed, in hope of improving teaching of history teachers in Mainland China and making efforts for teaching improvement.
