Along with the development of social work in China,the field of hospice is increasing valued.Life review method plays an important role in hospice due to its own characteristics.This paper mainly concentrates on the application of the life review method in hospice care of patients with advanced cancers,including the concrete implementation and the effect of practicing the life review method,the impact on life qualities of patients with advanced cancers,existing problems and related improvement measures.The significance of this study lies in that through learning,summarization,analysis and reflection regarding the life review method applied in hospice care of patients with advanced cancers,researchers are expected to find out and summarize better services and professional methods,and put forward according practical suggestions,which aims at compensating for the defects of medical services via the intervention of social work,and therefore maximally improving life qualities of patients with advanced cancers.Theoretically,the life review method is designed to enrich and expand the narrative therapy;simultaneously,it also adds to the evidence of its application in hospice care of patients with advanced cancers.Practically,patients with terminal cancers will benefit from the life review method and gain improvements in both materially and spiritually;meanwhile,the life review method will provide references to the development of hospice in social work field.The writer employs literature research method to study 30 representative case records,selected from 270 case service records,which are named as “Psycho-Social-Spiritual Needs Assessment and Care Record” among all summarized materials of “Hospice Project”.Through combing 30 case records information and doing literature reviews,the author fulfills the sorting,induction,summary and inflection of the hospice interventions on patients with terminal cancers,which to certain extent improves and enhances social work services.There are 4 results of this study.Firstly,the applicability and necessity of the life review method.Applicability: According to the 30 cases studied,the researcher found not only the elderly but also the other age groups with advanced cancers are in need of reviewing the whole life.All the participants on the hospice including young patients,middle-age patients and elderly patients are the same in their needs regardless of ages.Necessity: Previous literature shows that in the last stage of patients with terminal cancers,patients tend to make negative comments on their lives,instead of facing death calmly.Therefore,these patients require hospice and life review interventions.However,through the sorting,induction and analysis of cases,the author discovers that patients who have positive retrospect about their lives need life review as well,which were not mentioned in any other documents.Secondly,the effects of life review.Throughout the whole process of reviewing life,patients function better in both physically and mentally,which not only improves their life qualities,but also enhances the meaning of their life at the same time.Thirdly,the application mode of the life review method in hospice of patients with terminal cancers.It includes how to determine whether using the life review method,how toprovide hospice,how to discuss with patients about specific hospice interventions,the problems encountered and the according solutions.Last but not least,the advantages and disadvantages of the application of the life review method in hospice.The advantages rest on effectively dealing with kinds of patients' psychological needs,maximally responding to and meeting patients' psychological demands,guiding patients to review life,exploring the significance,and making amends.The disadvantages are the diversity of needs and requirements of patients with advanced cancers;the singularity of the life review method;and the limitations of effects.
