Ye Shengtao's Research On Children's Literature And Children's Education

Ye shengtao, is the first writer of children's literature in the modern Chinese literature history.He adapted the original children's literature into language teaching materials in primary school,which contributes the unique style of compiling textbooks. As a significant spiritual sustenance for spiritual growth of the children, the main responsibility of children's literature is,with its special literal value, to help the children who are in the crucial stage of physical and mental development to form a healthy personality.In this way, the purpose of children's literature is consistent with that of children's education.Ye's multiple identities and the remarkable contributions made based on it are the reasons why the study of Ye has a special value.He is a solemn writing life of the writer, and he is also a Chinese teacher in primary and middle school. His children's literature is an important part of his literary creation, and was deeply affected by the view of his adult literature. Ye Shengtao's fairy tales have pioneering position in the history of chianese children's literature, but due to the influences of various factors, his fairy tales is obscure for children, which influence it's acceptance. On the other hand, Ye Shengtao concerned the education of children very much,he had written a large of articles about the education problems,which reflected his unique ideas to the education of children.And now it seems still has a progressive significance.Ye Shengtao's views of children's education and children's literature creation views which refected in the actual operation are not consistent,that makes me interested in this problem.In this thesis, I'd like to share a better understanding about Ye's ideas on education through the analysis of his works. Thanks to the reciprocal relation between educational ideas and literary works, we can acquire a relatively systematic idea about Ye's contributions to children's literature and make an objective evaluation of his works, thus provide certain enlightenment and lessons on modern children's literature and children's education.This thesis consists in five parts:The first part(introduction) : A brief overview of the reason of topic selection, literature review, research methods and basic concepts.The second part(chapter 1) : Explore factors contribute to Ye's choices of children's literature and children's education as lifelong career through aspects as the era background,personal experience and contemporary education reform.The third part(chapter 2) : A detailed study of Ye's early fairy tales collection,Scarecrow, is presented in this part. With the close reading of the text and application of previous studies as well as Ye's related theories, an analysis of the shift of Ye's literary poetic and the influence of his identity as an educator upon literary creation is given.Fourth part(chapter 3) : This part mainly focus on the study of Ye's later fairy tales“The Stone Statue of the Ancient Hero ” and “The Languages of Birds and Animals”.Through the analysis of the content and material selection of these fairy tales, we further explore the change of the writer's literary poetic and its underlying causes.The fifth part(chapter 4) : Another inseparable component of Ye's children's literary career,textbook compilation, is studied in this chapter. We choose The Enlightened National Language Textbook, a textbook which is a perfect fusion of children's literature and children's education, as a sample. The analysis mainly focus on three aspects, respectively Ye's textbook compilation practice, the uniqueness of textbook selection, his views upon teaching materials.Sixth part(chapter 5) : Through the study of Ye's essays on education, we will conclude his outlooks on children's education, which along with his poetic upon children's literature,help us to grasp the main ideas of Ye's educational ideas.The conclusion part summarizes the writing experience and the enlightenment gained through thesis composition.
