When globalization has become increasingly prevalent in various fields such as the media, news has permeated every aspect of people's lives and played an important role in the exchange of international information. With the advent of social development and the Internet+,people no longer stick to their own national news, but are also eager to read more foreign news to understand the world. Therefore, the translation of English news into Chinese plays a decisive role in cultural exchanges. At the same time, higher requirements for the quality of Chinese translation is also put forward. As a kind of hard news, the Chinese translation of political news is an important part of English news translation. On the one hand, political news, like general news, has the characteristics of dissemination information and attraction;on the other hand,it has the solemn, accurate, and objective characteristics, unique to hard news.In terms of theoretical guidance, the traditional translation theory is relatively weak in its applicability to news translation, while Skopos theory is free from the constraint of equivalence translation.Skopos theory believes that the entire translation process should focus on the purpose of translation, and that the translation which can achieve the intended purpose can be called a good and appropriate one.The purpose of this practical report is to explain the translation strategies of English political news under the guidance of Skopos theory. The author selected 50 press releases translated from China Daily.com as material to illustrate how the three rules of Skopos theory are applied through the analysis of its specific translation methods, such as amplification, deletion, explication and substitution.
