This report is based on the translation of Hierarchies and Bureaucracies:On the Role of Collusion in Organization.It is an academic paper with a great significance in academic exchange.And the important role that translation of academic papers plays cannot be underestimated.In this regard,translation of said paper is of great practical significance.Academic paper bears the feature of informative text of which the proper translation strategy is communicative translation,according to Peter Newmark's Text Typology.This report contains five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction to the project,including its background and the current research as well as the significance of translating academic papers.The second chapter briefly states the course of translation,including pre-translation preparations which contains analysis of the source text,collection of parallel text and glossy building,translation of the source text and quality control.The third chapter introduces Peter Newmark's Text Typology and communicative translation as well as the guidance his theories provide on the author's translation.The fourth chapter is case study,describing main difficulties and corresponding translation techniques used on the translation of proper nouns,formulas,sentences and text.The last chapter is,conclusion,summarizing the experience the author gained from the project and the limitations of the translation.The author hopes to work out a feasible way of translating academic paper and expects that it can be beneficial to the would-be academic translators.
