Translation Report Based On The Proper Ambition Of Science

This report is based on the translation of the book The Proper Ambition of Science.In 2002,this book is published by Routledge Press,which belongs to London History and Philosophy series.As an academic collection,the writing style of this book is logical and standardized,and this book covers some scholars from ancient Greece to the present who are interested in questions regarding philosophy of science and have made some in-depth studies on these questions.As the English and Chinese languages are greatly different in syntax,the author has encountered many difficulties in translating long sentences.Based on the translation experience of the predecessors,this thesis discusses the tactics of translating English long sentences in terms of synchronizing,recasting,other flexible translation and translation with multiple devices.The report is divided into four parts altogether.The first chapter is the description of the task,which mainly introduces the source text and the issues to be discussed.The second chapter tells the process of the task,i.e.,the process of translation and proofreading.The third chapter is the case study,which discusses several devices of translation,to be specific,translation devices are discussed from the perspectives of synchronizing,recasting,other flexible translation and translation with multiple devices.The author also explains the reasons why translation strategies should be adopted in translating long sentences.The fourth chapter is a summary,in which the strategies of translating English long sentences is summarized and the process of translation is reviewed.
