A Practice Report On The Translation Of Enterprise Website Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

As a pillar of China's national economy,real estate industry has been playing a significant role in promoting economic development.However,it is also facing problems such as domestic market saturation and property bubbles.With the implementation of China's “go global” strategy,more and more enterprises begin to expand overseas market and construct their website.Therefore,a study on translation of real estate enterprise's website is of great necessity.Although the research on website translation has attracted the attention of scholars,few research on the translation of real estate enterprise's website has been conducted.Based on the author's E-C website translation practice when working as a part-time translator in Chinese-Focus Translation Co.,Ltd.,this report analyzes the translation difficulties the author encountered,which include:(1)mistranslation of proper nouns and terminologies;(2)inappropriately handling the relationship between modifiers and center words;(3)the lack of indefinite clause in Chinese;(4)the lack of corresponding active voice words when translating passive sentences into Chinese;(5)failure to achieve cohesion and coherence at discourse level.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,this report has adopted the following translation methods:(1)proper nouns and terminologies: establishment by convention,literal translation,literal translation with annotation and free translation;(2)noun phrases: conversion into verb-object construction or pre-attribute;(3)indefinite clause: translation into extra-position structure,adjustment of word order;(4)passive voice: translation into non-subject sentence,conversion into active voice;(5)achieve coherence and cohesion at discourse level: omission and recasting.The tentative findings of this report are expected to provide enlightenment to website translation of real estate enterprises.
