With the rapid development of the society and economy,China has begun to move towards the center of the world stage. The international community has increasingly turned its eyes to China and has been eager to learn more about China. The works of Chinese leaders have become an important window for the international community to know more about China. The new era is in urgent need of translating the speeches of Chinese leaders into various foreign languages. The author has the honor to participate in the English translation project of Selected Works of Hu Jintao, organized and implemented by the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, and she has undertaken the preliminary translation of part of the work. The translation report is based on this translation practice. There are a large number of long and complex Chinese sentences with rich contents and complicated structures in the Selected Works of Hu Jintao. The translation of these sentences is a prominent difficulty in this translation practice. In the process of translation, the translator should not only reproduce the information of the source texts completely and accurately, but also retain the language style and deep cultural connotation of the source texts. This translation report firstly introduces the project background and the process of this translation practice.Secondly, two difficulties in this translation practice are analyzed:one is the translation of the explicit and implicit coordinators and subordinators in long and complex Chinese sentences;the other is the translation of clauses and phrases in long and complex sentences. Then, under the guidance of Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, this report makes a case analysis on the C-E translation of long and complex sentences. This translation report provides a reference for similar translation practice.
