Nowadays,Jewish culture, values, and ideas have permeated many aspects of modern life. This translation project report is about two essays by Professor Hershey H.Friedman.The first source text,“The Impact of Jewish Values on Marketing and Business Practice”,discusses the influence of the Talmud and Torah on the attitudes towards business and wealth of the Jews. And the second,“Ideal Occupation: The Talmudic Perspective”,exemplifies the ideal occupation from the Talmudic perspective. As an important guiding book, the Talmud not only regulates traditional Jews' daily life, but also endows them with infinite intelligence. The language of the source text is succinct with strict logic relation. So one of the important tasks for the translator is to deliver information accurately.Considering different language expressions and cultures, the translator relies on Eugene A.Nida's functional equivalence theory to analyze the original text, endeavoring to seek functional equivalence between the ST and the TT.The translator explores the guidance of the theory in translating the source text on lexical equivalence, semantic equivalence and discourse equivalence, hoping that the readers can get deeper insight of the Talmud and the business values in Jewish culture.
