A Translation Report Of Article 3-5.7 In The Third Volume Of Understanding And Negotiating The EPC Contract

This report is based on the translation of Article 3 to Article 5.7 of Volume III,extracted from Understanding and Negotiating the EPC Contract by Howard M.Steinberg.This book aims at helping contract drafters to grasp highlights of EPC(Employment,Procurement and Construction)contracts,to avoid some unnecessary mistakes at the drafting stage,so that obligations of all parties to the contract can be clarified and potential conflicts can be averted as possible as it may.This report specifically concentrates on analysis of the logic relationship between the main sentence and the attributive clause.Three logic relationships have been discussed in this report: conditional relationship,causal relationship and objective relationship.Based on such analysis,some approaches to translating attributive clauses have been proposed to an extent,that is,addition,fronting and synthesis.These approaches have been exemplified in detail to display the adverbial function of attributive clauses in an appropriate way,which indicates the significant and practical effect of translating attributive clauses as adverbial structures in Chinese under particular circumstances.Such proposals of translating attributive clauses may further provide some meaningful and constructive research in legal English text translation.
