In recent years, the number of South Koreans who come to China to learn Chinese has gradually increased, and more and more scholars begin to pay attention to the teaching of Korean Chinese. For Korean students who are in the primary stage of Chinese learning, the problem of voice recognition is the key issue affecting their Chinese learning level. Therefore, this paper makes an in-depth discussion on this issue. The listening test is organized to identify problems with South Korean students' phonetic discrimination. The listening test covers discrimination of the initial consonant, and simple or compound vowel of Chinese syllables as well as light tones and rhotic accents in phonetic changes.According to phonetic discrimination test results, major phonetic discrimination problems with South Korean students are summarized, including their confusion of similar phonologies, confusion of light tones with level tones and falling tones, confusion of rhotic tones with simple vowels of Chinese syllables, such as “er”.On the basis of the above problem summary, causes behind are examined, including negative transfer of the mother tongue, negative transfer of the target language, textbooks, students' individual factors. To be specific, the influence of the negative transfer of the mother tongue is mainly reflected as South Korean students' habit of replacing pronunciations not existing in Chinese or similar to Chinese with South Korean pronunciation, and South Korean students' vulnerability to South Korean pronunciation rules and communication rules. As to the influence of the negative transfer of the target language,South Korean students can easily generalize the already acquired and lack solid grasp of combination and spelling rules of Chinese instant consonants and simple vowels. As to the influence of textbooks, the problem is mainly reflected as lack of standardization and inconsistency of some textbooks. As to the influence of students' individual factors, these factors can be divided into cognitive factors and emotional factors. Finally, the phonetics teaching method and the listening teaching method are combined to improve South Korean students' preliminary Chinese phonetic discrimination ability. This paper puts forward four referential teaching methods, including phonetic comparison teaching method, phoneme and syllable combined teaching method, listening micro-skill teaching method, and the method of using PRAAT and other modernized phonetic software to assist in teaching.Meanwhile, targeted teaching suggestions are put forward for listening-based phonetic discrimination in four aspects, including discrimination of initial consonants and simple vowels of Chinese syllables, tones, light tones and rhotic accents. To sum up,by studying problems with South Korean students' preliminary listening-based Chinese phonetic discrimination, the author attempts to provide references for the future Chinese teachers in phonetic teaching of their preliminary Chinese listening classes, and help more South Korean students with the preliminary Chinese proficiency to constantly improve their phonetic discrimination ability.
