A Report On C-E Translation Of The Study On The Situation And Prospects For The Cross-strait Cooperation In The Green Energy Industry

The translation of academic paper must be accurate and fluent for playing its key role in achieving better international academic communication.Based on the C-E translation of The Study on the Situation and Prospects for Cross-strait Cooperation in the Green Energy Industry,which was published in a journal Taiwan Studies,this report is intended to discuss how to translate Chinese technical academic papers into English based on Newmark's Communicative Translation Theory.This translation report has four chapters: chapter one is the description of the project including introduction to the Max academic paper translation project and the translation task from the project The Study on the Situation and Prospects for Cross-strait Cooperation in the Green Energy Industry,and translation requirements of the translation task;chapter two is translation process of the project including translation preparation,translation process and proofreading;chapter three is to discuss Chinese long sentence translation difficulties in this technical academic paper through analyzing the differences between Chinese and English long sentences,and based on Newmark's Communicative Translation Theory,five translation techniques are proposed;chapter four is evaluation of translation project including evaluation from the translation project organization,the client,and self-evaluation.The translation difficulties of the Chinese technical paper are Chinese long sentence translation which mainly can be divided into five Chinese complex sentences: parallelizing complex sentence,sequential complex sentence,explanatory complex sentence,objective complex sentence and causal complex sentence.Based on it,the author adopts several translation techniques guided by Newmark's Communicative Translation Theory as follows: translation techniques of division+ addition and addition are adopted in Chinese parallelizing complex sentence translation;division+ conversion and addition are adopted in Chinese sequential complex translation;division+ combination and combination are adopted in Chinese explanatory complex sentence translation;division+ syntactic linearity and syntactic linearity are applied in Chinese objective complex sentence translation,and recasting is applied in Chinese causal complex sentence translation.Besides,the above-mentioned translation techniques are the general translation techniques for the five C-E long complex sentence translations.Some other translation techniques can be also used according to different situations.The author has summarized the C-E translation techniques from his own experience and hopes the translation report will be a help to the translators to better translate academic papers and texts of green energy industry.
