A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Weifang's Comprehensive Transportation Planning(Excerpt)

As China keeps improving the international status,external publicity has become extraordinarily significant during the process of China showing national strength and presenting a better image to the outside world.Translation has played a key part in international communication.In recent years,experts have attached increasing attention to translation for international communication and great progress has been made in recent 20 years.In a narrow sense,translation for international communication involves various nonliterary texts such as the translation of media reports,public documents,introductions to governmental organs,enterprises and public institutions,public signs and some other information texts.The author participated in the translation of Weifang's Comprehensive Transportation Planning from February to March,2018.As a typical kind of text for publicity purposes,the translation of this text is used to advertise the investment environment in Weifang and attract foreign enterprises to establish a "Food Valley" in China.Meanwhile,besides the characteristics of public documents,Weifang's Comprehensive Transportation Planning also possesses some features of technical text for involving specific knowledge of transportation industry.During the translation,the author found the difficulties lied in the translations of road names,terminologies,null-subject sentences and long sentences.Based on this practice,the author firstly analyzes in this report the causes for the above-mentioned problems and then works out corresponding translation strategies under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The author adopts "name analysis" to translate road names,builds a term list to translate specific terms and translates null-subject sentences and complicated sentences by various translation strategies to improve the translation quality.By analyzing examples cited from the project text,this project report hopes to offer some useful suggestions for the practice and theoretical studies concerning the translation of similar kind.
