A Report On C-E Translation Of Service Design And Innovation(Excerpt)

Since the 1960s,the global industrial structure has shown the general trend of transition from an "industrial economy" to a "service economy" With the proposition of "The Belt and Road Initiative",the trade between countries is going to be more frequent.In order to promote the domestic products overseas,depending only on the design language inherent in the product is not adequate,and translation,as the medium of Chinese and foreign communication,is particularly important.Relative to the design of the industrial economy era,the design in the service design era will be deepened.Thus,translation studies on service design text have become a significant research trend.This practice report takes Service Design and Innovation as the research object,and the translator excerpts Chapter 5 Service Orientation of Innovation Thinking and Chapter 7 Cases of Service Design as the source text.These two chapters demonstrate the purpose and task of service design and design thinking in practical application.Due to the differences between Chinese and English,the text types and linguistic features of translation materials are considered more in the process of translation.The report applies Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory as the theoretical guidance,and the translator finished the translation work considering the text type and the language features of the source text.The report is divided into four chapters.Chapter One introduces the background of the source text,the purpose and the significance of the translation;Chapter Two introduces the translation process briefly,including the preparation,theoretical guidance,quality control and report writing;Chapter Three is case study,and it discusses the difficulties of vocabulary application and non-subject phenomenon encountered in the translation process and describes the solution under the combination of functional equivalence theory and translation methods,such as omission,amplification and literal translation;and Chapter Four summarizes the translation experience and points out the shortcomings of the translation and suggestions for further studies.Through the translation task,the translator has the further realization of the service design text,the design thinking and translation methods.The translator hopes that the translation can provide the reference for future translation of service design text.
