A Report On The Simulated Consecutive Interpreting For The Press Conference Of 2018 Silk Road Business Summit(Zhangjiajie)

In this report,the author simulates consecutive interpreting at the press conference of 2018 Zhangjiajie Silk Road Business Summit on a basis of Newmark's communicative translation theory,which allows the author to analyze the audio recordings of the interpreting practice to examine the application of the theory.The press conference is targeted at promoting the summit and indicating its implications.On the occasion,four leaders delivered speeches and answered journalists' questions,which involves the coordinated development of finance,trade,branding,tourism and medicine among the strategic goals of the Belt and Road,the holding of the previous two summits in Xi'an,the reason for Zhangjiajie's success in winning the bid,and the expected cooperations and achievements.In brief,the conference provides a large body of valuable information.As a matter of fact,the principles of Newmark's communicative translation theory focus on the target audience-oriented,take advantage of the target language and emphasizing the communicative effect for the sake of cross-cultural communication.Through the interpreting practice,the author realizes that it is important to uphold the principles of brevity and clear logic to address three difficulties as follows: first,select the suitable translating methods in terms of the target audience orientation—“as literal as is possible,as free as is necessary”,and achieve the greatest brevity in the expression of words and phrases;second,combine synthesis with division methods to deal with lengthy sentences and unclear logic in the source language by taking advantage of the target language;third,resort to paraphrasing or omission to eliminate loose structure and redundant information for the best communicative effect.By analyzing the practical corpus,the author identifies the communicative translation theory's factors beneficial to interpreting practice.Besides,the author knows more of the tourist culture and development of Zhangjiajie,improves her capabilities and accumulates her practical experience through the interpreting process,which can inspire herself and other learners in future.This report consists of four chapters: Chapter One has three sections: task background,task content and task significance.Chapter Two focuses on the process of the simulated consecutive interpreting and its theoretical foundation.The interpreting process includes pre-interpreting preparation,while-interpreting processand post-interpreting work.In the pre-interpreting stage,the author verifies terms,accumulates relevant knowledge of topics and fulfills language analysis.In the while-interpreting stage,the author describes the situation of while-interpreting and records the consecutive interpreting process as preparation for the case study.In the post-interpreting stage,those problems in the practice are classified into different typical categories in order to carry out the theory and case studies.Chapter Three,under the guidance of communicative translation theory,serves to choose effective methods by extracting the theoretical main ideas and solving problems emerging in the while-interpreting process.During the process of case study,the author not only explores the strategies and methods of consecutive interpreting and improves her cognition in the field of the theory and practice.Chapter Four delivers the author's gains,lessons in the practice and suggestions on interpreting study.The reflection of the simulation may serve as a basis for further study on the effect of interpreting under the guidance of the communicative translation theory.
