A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Chapter 16 And Chapter 17 Of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018

With the development of China’s comprehensively deepening reform and the in-depth construction of the Belt and Road Initiative,the “going global” strategy of Chinese culture has ushered in an important strategic period full of opportunities.In order to comply with the national strategy and meet the need for international exchanges,the Local Annals Editorial Committee of Jiangsu Province has been compiling and publishing the English edition of Jiangsu Province Yearbook annually since 2012 to promote the Jiangsu culture and expand its cultural influence.This is a project report on the C-E translation of Chapter16(Cultural and Arts)and the first part of Chapter 17(Mass Media)excerpted from Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018,in which the author studies and analyzes the major difficulties encountered in the translation process.This report,with the combination of the linguistic typological and cultural differences between Chinese and English,summarizes the problems encountered in the translation process respectively at lexical and syntactical level and then analyzes them with relevant translation theory to give feasible translation method.At lexical level,there are lots of culture-loaded words,numeral abbreviations and titles of prized books and works,which could be handled with literal translation,literal translation with annotation and free translation;at syntactic level,adding subjects,changing voice,conversion and cutting are employed to deal with null-subject sentences,parallelism sentences and difficult long sentences.In addition,the author hopes that the case analysis and translation methods in this project report can provide some reference for relevant translation research and practice.
