Analysis Of The Practice Path Of Promoting Community Building From Asset-Based Perspective

Community building originated from the Japanese civic movement in the 1960 s and rooted in the civic participation.Its purpose was to make residents live more comfortable and better.Currently,community building in mainland China is mostly a "top-down" government-driven development model,and community building is used as an important way for the government to promote community governance and community autonomy.Nevertheless,with residents' pursuit of a better life and development of the NGO,community building is participating by the public.In the prosperous Lujiazui,D community is old and messy so that the residents here have a stronger demand for the construction of beautiful homes,which is the certain basis for residents to participate in the community building.The study selected D community as a case,guided by the asset-based perspective,through the interview method,document study and observation method and questionnaire survey method,to gather information of the basic situation and community building of D community.Based on the situation and demand of the D community building,the research designed practical social work solutions with integrated community social work methods,following the principles and strategies of ABCD: asset based,internally focused,and relationship driven.This study explored the path of promoting community building by using the social work methods,in order to form ‘bottom-up combining top-down,multi-participation' sustainable and innovation model.The research results show that the intervention of social work methods,such as resource linking,promoting residents' participation,establishing social support network and group work,is conducive to promoting the renewal of community assets,improving residents' participation ability,community identity,participation and responsibility in community construction.Therefore,the author also summarizes the path of social work to promote community building: first,starting from the community assets and program designed based on community needs assessment;second,social work promotes the integration and circulation of community assets;third,playing the role of internal organizations and play the advocacy and linkage role of social work in cross-border cooperation,endogenous motivation and policy promotion.
