Developed from the same root,China mainland and Taiwan both use Chinese as main language.Classical Chinese is the most leading linguistic form of ancient literature,playing a vital position in the Chinese textbooks across the Taiwan Strait.This paper makes a comparative study on the selection of classical Chinese in the junior middle school textbooks published by People’s Education Press(PEP)and Taiwan Hanlin Publishing Co.Ltd.,which clearly falls into five parts.The introduction part teases out current research situation related to this subject,determines the research content and methods,and defines the relevant concepts.The first chapter makes a statement on programmatic documents for two version’s Chinese course and their compiling concepts.And then,the paper comparatively studies the selection system of classical Chinese,regarding number and proportion of the selected essays,the same articles and the selected genres.In the third chapter,a comparative analyze on the arrangement structure of the same classical Chinese presented by the two versions was made,taking "Mr.Wu Liu’s Autobiography" as an example.Based on the above comparative analysis,the last chapter thinks about the two selection versions’ similarities and differences and put up some suggestions respectively:PEP edition needs to adjust the disorder state of selection system,integrate the help-reading system and enrich the questions in exercise system.While Hanlin edition should attach more importance to the accumulation of classical Chinese and get a better control on the numbers and difficulty level of contents.
