As the publication of the Geography Curriculum Standard for Ordinary High School(2017 Edition),the fundamental task of morality education is put forward clearly which aims to promote students' comprehensive and personality development and to focus on the development of core competence.Therefore,cultivating geographical literacy as a core competence of the modern citizens has been the general trend.As an inseparable and important part of geography teaching,the development as well as utilization of local geography is becoming an important support for developing the core literacy of geography discipline,which is also in line with the requirements of the new curriculum standard.It turns out that,to some extent,geography teaching,which is based on real life experience and local material,can improve students' interest in learning,combining the theory with practice,and improve students' level of regional cognition as well as their ability to solve the real problems in life.We should apply native materials to the teaching of geography rationally and adequately in order to guide the students to pay close attention to the surrounding environment,enhance their sense of responsibility in the aspect of cherishing resources and protecting the environment as well as stimulate their love for their hometown and their motherland.First of all,this paper adopts literature method,questionnaire method and educational experiment method.The writer analyzes relative researches of the domestic and abroad and combines with the experience of teaching practice for almost a year.The writer explores the current application of local material in geography teaching in a Senior High School in Yingkou.It turns out that the students show their great interests on the main content of local materials,but the actual situation of the implementation is not satisfactory.To solve this problem,the writer adopts the constructivist learning theory,multiple intelligences theory and case teaching theory as the theoretical basis into the teaching design to do an experiment of the implementation of local materials in geography teaching.Later,softwares such as SPSS and Excel are used to analyze and compare the questionnaire and the results with the aim to find out the real effect as well as specific designs of application to cultivate senior high school students' core literacy when the local materials are used in the teaching of geography.This paper aims to provide certain applicable references that can contribute to the research field of cultivating core literacy of geography with the help of local geographical materials,and to provide specific as well as feasible proposals for theimplementation for many front-line teachers with the purpose to enrich their teaching resources and to improve the interest and practicality of geography classes.
