In this article I selected two commonly used textbooks among Thai primary school students as the object of study,namely Experiencing Chinese and Chinese Friends.The purpose of reviewing these two set of teaching materials is to compare their material structure,and the number of aspects,words,and practice questions.The aim of this comparison is to outline the merits and shortcomings of these two textbooks for teachers to optimize the use of these materials in the classroom,and also to provide a reference for content that may be more useful for Chinese teaching Nakhonpathom pre-primary school,Thailand.This paper has six distinct sections:(1)the first introduces the rational and significance of this research,as well as an overview of the theory and method I used to analysis and compare the two textbooks,(2)the second section looks particularly at a comparative analysis of the objectives of writing,principles covered,teaching materials style,and teaching illustrations,(3)with the third section comparing the subject matter and text structure of the textbooks and exercises,(4)and the fourth section comparing the selection and arrangement of Chinese characters,as well as comparing the suggested classroom activities,(5)and the fifth section analyzes the results of survey and interview conducted in a Thai primary school to look into both application status,popularity and respective reasons;(6)and finally the sixth section draws a conclusion of these findings,where I also state future recommendations for the improvement of teaching materials for foreigners and the selection of teaching strategies.The comparative analysis Experiencing Chinese and Chinese friends described here is an attempt to demonstrate the usefulness of these two textbooks for primary level Thai students and to identify ways to improve teaching materials for these students.
