The purpose of this study is to verify the preventive effect of mental health education courses aimed at cultivating emotional intelligence on junior high school students’ school-weariness through a teaching experiment.Before conducting the teaching experiment,the questionnaire method was used to investigate the students’ study-weariness and emotional intelligence in Zhengzhou Z middle school,and the relationship between them both with the necessity and feasibility of this teaching experiment is analyzed.Then a set of mental health education courses aimed at cultivating emotional intelligence which is abbreviated as EI mental health courses was designed.It consists of 8 class hours,including 3 hours of knowledge(cognition of emotional quotient,cognition of emotion and the function and influence of emotion).3 class hours of practical content(identifying emotions,expressing emotions and regulating emotions)and 2 class hours of special topics(emotional management in interpersonal relationships,adjustment of examination anxiety).Finally,a teaching experiment in intervening school-weariness among freshman in junior middle school was carried out with the design of pre-and-post-test in experimental group and control group.The two classes(99 students in total)in the key classes of the Z middle school freshman were randomly selected to be the experimental group,and the other two classes(102 students in total)were randomly selected to be the control group.(1)There was no significant difference in emotional intelligence between the experimental group and the control group before the teaching experiment.The post-test of emotional intelligence of the experimental group was higher than that both of its pre-test and the control group’s post-test.And the differences were statistically significant in the two dimensions(emotional self-management and emotional management of others).(2)There was no significant difference in school weariness between the experimental group and the control group before the teaching experiment.The school weariness post-test in the experimental group was lower than that of its pre-test and the control group’s post-test.And there was a significant difference in the school weariness between post-tests of the experimental group and the control group.According to the above results,conclusions were drown in the following:(1)EI mental health courses can can improve the level of emotional intelligence of junior high school students.Compared with the general mental health courses,its promoting effect on emotional intelligence is obvious in two aspects: managements self-emotions and others’ emotions.(2)EI mental health courses can effectively prevent the increasing of school weariness of freshman of junior middle school in their first school semester.
