The teaching of modern and contemporary novels is an important part of the high school Chinese curriculum.Since the new curriculum reform,"how to effectively teach novels" has caused extensive discussion in the language community.This thesis focuses on the selection of Chinese modern and contemporary novels in the textbooks of high school people.It examines the teaching of high school modern and contemporary novels from the perspective of cultivating students’ reading ability,and points out the problems and causes of current teaching.Suggestions for the problem.This article consists of the following four parts:The first part is an overview of Chinese modern and contemporary novels and their teaching value.On the basis of analyzing the definition of the novel and its textual features,combined with the articles and characteristics of modern and contemporary novels in the textbook of the People’s Education Edition,it is clear that the modern and contemporary novels are of great significance for enriching students’ modern novel views,constructing students’ accomplishments and realizing the value of Chinese subjects.The second part explores the teaching problems existing in modern Chinese modern and contemporary novels.Starting from the three aspects of teaching content,teaching process and teaching evaluation,combined with the theory of novel appreciation,based on the teaching of modern and contemporary novels,the author deeply explores the problems that arise,and draws the problem of the lag of modern high school teaching.The third part,based on the problems existing in modern and contemporary novels,reflects on the causes of the problems.This part adopts the form of questionnaire survey.It is considered from three aspects:teachers,students and college entrance examination.It is found that the poor professional quality of teachers,the poor reading ability of students and the important influence of college entrance examination on teaching are the reasons for the current novels.The fourth part,based on the teaching problems and reasons of modern and contemporary novels,combined with the specific novels,puts forward the suggestions for the teaching of modern and contemporary novels.Teachers should reshape the concept of novels,draw on the theory of literary criticism to innovate the content of teaching,and deeply analyze the aesthetic value and artistic value of the novel.In the process of teaching,flexible use of teaching methods,pay attention to the cultivation of students’ reading ability;Try to diversify,expand the evaluation subject,enrich the evaluation methods,and determine the standard evaluation criteria.
