Professionalization Of College Counselors

College counselor system is a unique innovation in the field of Ideological and political work for college students in China,with strong Chinese characteristics.Since the birth of the political instructor system,it has gone through more than half a century of development.College counselors play an important role in the growth and healthy development of college students.They are not only good teachers and friends of students,but also an important part of the faculty and management team.Facing the development and change of international and domestic situation,facing the constant renewal of the characteristics of the times and the new era of college students,the professional construction of college counselors is becoming more and more important.It is of great significance to study the development course and existing problems of the professionalization of college counselors so as to indicate the direction and path of the professionalization of college counselors and provide suggestions for better system design.This paper studies the professionalization of college counselors from the perspective of occupational sociology,mainly based on Andrew Abbott's "jurisdiction" theory,LIU Sida's transformation of Abbott's "inter-occupational ecosystem" and the concepts of "internal labor market" and "internal state" in Broway's labor process theory.Research framework is established on these theories,in order to explore the historical development and current situation of college counselors' professionalization.By using the method of qualitative research,this study has a relatively complete understanding of the professional development of college counselors through the collation of literature at various stages of their development,in-depth interviews with sixteen college counselors and seven related professionals,as well as reference to the measures taken by the British and American students' affairs management.It summarizes the existing problems in the professionalization of college counselors in China: unclear labor jurisdiction,inconsistent rights and responsibilities,too much business work,the construction of professional disciplines to be strengthened,the lack of professional expertise of employees,the need to improve the training system,the need to upgrade the professionalism and professional ethics,the need to improve the treatment and welfare,the need to improve the profession,development path is not smooth,feedback channel efficiency is not high,professional organization is short.And put forward targeted,practical suggestions: first,clear jurisdiction;second,improve the management rules and procedures;third,improve the feedback ability and build professional organizations;four,to attach importance to the quality of college counselors themselves.
