The “double-class” universities issued by the three ministries are the new pilots of Chinese universities.The university-level leaders,who are the university decision-makers,play a vital role in the construction and development of the university.The decision-making of the university-level leadership group is inseparable from its personal characteristics.It is of great significance to study the characteristics of university-level leadership,the status quo of school-level leadership groups can be found,and the reasons for the status quo can be explored,and suggestions for selecting and hiring people can be provided.The study selected 453 school-level leaders from 42 “double-class” universities in China as samples.The data research method was used to analyze the characteristics of the group one by one,and the comparative research method was used to compare the 42 universities by Divided into different regions and types.The study found that: Firstly,the overall characteristics of university-level leaders are male,about 50-year-old,Ph.D.,graduated from “985 Engineering” university,science and engineering background,and served for about 4 years,working in the university system.Secondy,there are not regional differences in gender,age,majors,post-doctoral schools and majors,years of service,work experience,and whether Academicians;but there are regional differences in the Undergraduate,Master,Doctoral graduated School;Doctoral major;highest degree;Highest academic school and major.Western region compared to the other three regions,the Undergraduate,Master,Doctoral and the highest degree degree graduated from the “985 Engineering” and“211 Engineering” universities are least,the highest degree is the least doctoral degree and the most undergraduate,Doctoral and top-level majors are obviously more agricultural.Thirdly,there are no type differences in gender,age,undergraduate,master's,doctoral and highest degree graduate school,highest degree,post-doctoral school,length of service,work experience and whether academician.However,there are type differences in the Undergraduate,Master,Doctoral,the highest degree and post-doctoral major.The major of engineering accounts for a large proportion in the Science and Engineering universities;other types universities' education,science and agronomy are significantly more than Comprehensive and Science and Engineering universities.This study makes an in-depth discussion on the status quo of the analysis of the characteristics of university-level leadership in China.First,The personal characteristics of all university-level leaders are based on the three aspects of gender,employment age and length of service;second,discussion on the reasons for the differences between the two levels of graduate school level,academic level and majors in different regions;third,discussion on the reasons for the different types of university-level leadership characteristics,domestic professional background,domestic and international professional background comparison.And for the comparison and cause analysis,the authors put forward reference suggestions for the selection and employment of university-level leaders.
