Research On Economic And Trade Cooperation Between China And Zimbabwe (2000-2018)

In recent years,growing economic ties between China and the African continent have received increasing attention.This paper takes Zimbabwe as an example to discuss china-africa economic and trade cooperation in the new era.Relations between China and Zimbabwe can be traced back to the pre-independence period of Zimbabwe,when China strongly supported its struggle for national independence.As Sino-African trade cooperation deepens,economic and trade cooperation between China and Zimbabwe has also developed by leaps and bounds.The bilateral cooperation between China and Zimbabwe is manifested in many fields and levels,such as trade,investment,technical cooperation,etc.,especially in the fields of mining,tobacco,construction,agriculture,transportation,energy,information technology,textiles,tourism and military.In 2000,Zimbabwe was isolated from the Western world because of the "Fast-track land reform" policy,and then launched the "Look East" policy,attaching importance to relations with China and other developing countries.At the same time,sticking to the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs,China deepens bilateral relations with Zimbabwe and becomes Zimbabwe's important trading partner and international supporter.Since 2007,Zimbabwe has implemented a localization policy,which has had some negative effects on the trade between China and Zimbabwe.Taking the mining and tobacco industry as the main cases and combining the localization policy of Zimbabwe in the past ten years,this paper analyzes and studies the bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Zimbabwe since 2000.The first chapter reviews the relationship between China and Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1999.During the period of 1980-1999,China provided a lot of help to Zimbabwe,which became the cornerstone of the development of relations between China and Zimbabwe.Chapter two describes the great progress of economic and trade relations between China and Zimbabwe since 2003,and analyzes the reasons and manifestations behind that.At same time,this chapter also reviews several localization policies introduced by Zimbabwe after 2007,and analyzes the impact of localization policies on trade between China and Zimbabwe.Those actions,aimed at all foreign investors in Zimbabwe,have severely dampened the enthusiasm of investors from all over the world,including China.Taking representative cases as the breakthrough point,the third chapter respectively carrys on the thorough observation and the research to the cooperation between China and Zimbabwe in the mining industry and the tobacco industry and analyzes the investment`s situation of these two industries in Zimbabwe.The conclusion summarizes the challenges in the development of China-Zimbabwe economy and trade,puts forward the corresponding countermeasures,and gives an objective evaluation of the trade between China and Zimbabwe.Through the study of economic and trade cooperation between China and Zimbabwe,the two countries can promote further economic and trade cooperation.As the world's most important emerging power and the second largest economy,China's cooperation with African countries is conducive to enhancing the status of African countries in the world system.The cooperation and development of economic and trade relations between China and Zimbabwe are conducive to the practice of South-South cooperation and contribute to the construction of a new political and economic order in the world.
