This study focuses on the impact of supervisor support on innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students in local colleges and universities.In addition to analyzing the relationship between innovation ability in scientific research and general demographic variables,this study emphasizes the impact of supervisor support on innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students in local colleges and universities from the perspective of social support theory.This study adopts a questionnaire survey as the main research method,investigating the science and engineering academic graduate students in Shantou University,Guangzhou University and Shenzhen University.The 390 valid questionnaires were finally statistically analyzed and the interviews were conducted with the data conclusion.The research conclusions are as follows.1.The overall level of supervisor support of science and engineering academic graduate students in the three local colleges and universities is relatively high.2.Supervisor support has a positive effect on innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students in general.Academic support,personal support,autonomy support and material support have a significantly positive correlation with innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students.Academic support,personal support,autonomy support and material support have a significantly and positively predictive effect on innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students.The order of prediction effect from large to small can be listed:academic support>material support>autonomy support>personal support.3.The effect of the supervisor's substantive support is greater than that of the supervisor's psychology support.In other words,compared with personal support and autonomy support,academic support and material support have better prediction effect on innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students.4.Supervisor support is more important than supervisor's background factors to improve innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students.5.Innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students has significant differences in supervisor's age,professional title,guiding number and requirement in paper publishing.6.Innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students has significant differences in student's gender,source,consistency between undergraduate major and master major,willingness to pursue a doctorate.7.Supervisor support has significant differences in supervisor's age,professional title,guiding number and requirement in paper publishing.8.Supervisor's personal support has significant differences in supervisor's gender.According to the results of the research,the paper puts forward several suggestions.In terms of colleges and universities,firstly,the development of postgraduate education should be paid more attention and the investment of postgraduate education should be increased.Secondly,the graduate tutorial system should be improved to ensure that supervisor can provide adequate support.In terms of supervisor,firstly,the extensiveness and intensiveness of supervisor's support should be increased,combining substantive support and psychology support.Secondly,supervisor's guidance mode should be optimized in order to create a better guiding atmosphere.As for graduate students,firstly,the communication and feedback with supervisor should be increased in order to achieve two-way interaction.Secondly,they should adhere to the goal orientation and strengthen the initiative and consciousness of scientific research.Although there are still some deficiencies in this study,the results and suggestions in this research have reference value and practical significance in improving innovation ability in scientific research of science and engineering academic graduate students and ensuring the training quality of science and engineering academic graduate students in local colleges and universities.
