Despite rapid economic growth, household consumption has remained low in recent years, leading to underconsumption and structural dislocations. On the demographic side, demographics are unbalanced development of the population, with problems of "aging" and "youth",there is a problem of "aging" and "low birth rate" in the structure of demographic age. This article begins with the age structure of the population, within which the family analyzes the internal mechanisms of the influence of the age structure of the family on household consumption.,conducts empirical research, and then puts forward a series of policy recommendations to promote household consumption and consumption structure upgrading. This paper first theoretically illustrates the mechanisms that have direct and indirect effects of family structure on household consumption, and then analyzes the current state of family history and its consumption. In the linkage analysis, the relationship between the age structure of households and the consumption structure of private households is calculated. In the empirical analysis, this paper uses the data of five periods of CFPS from 2010 to 2018,and further analyzes the impact of population age structure on household consumption rate and consumption structure upgrading by building a fixed effect model, and compares urban and rural households and different incomes.Horizontal family comparison analysis. The study came to the conclusion:(1)The development of the age structure of the family population in my country is unbalanced, and there are problems of insufficient consumption and faults in the consumption structure.(2)Increased share of the population prevents the increase in consumption of private households and the modernization of consumption.(3)Increasing the share of young people in income promotes an increase in the rate of consumption and an increase in the structure of consumption.(4)Higher proportion of older population expresses the household consumption rate, but promotes the improvement of the household consumption structure.(5)Compared to urban and rural families, fewer children are oppressed than urban households and fewer young people than urban ones.In terms of consumption structure,a higher share of the population in the total population has adverse effects on urban and rural families, while the increase in the young and older population in turn has positive effects on urban families, but no significant effects on rural families.(6)In looking at the differences between households at different income levels: in terms of consumption rates, changes in the age structure have less of an impact on wealthier households than on lower-income households. As far as the consumption structure is concerned, the effects of the changed demographic change on low-income households are relatively small.A higher proportion of the smaller population in higher-income households dampens the effect, while a higher proportion of the older population amplifies the effect.Based on the results of the empirical study, the following recommendations are summarized from three elements: in terms of childcare,it is recommended that the government provide financial subsidies to reduce the burden of family childcare;improving the education system and promoting equity in education. With regard to retirement age, improve the social security system and ease the burden of caring for the elderly;promote the development of the "silver industry",stimulate the consumption of the elderly. In other respects, pay more attention to the development of high-level consumption industries and promote the modernization of consumption structures;Strengthening the rural economy and promoting the consumption of rural residents. The innovation of this paper is that when studying the relationship between population age structure and consumption, most literatures regard child dependency ratio and old age dependency ratio as the key explanatory variables representing the age structure of the population, while this paper studies the three age levels. The impact of population on household consumption, that is,the population of children, the population of young people, and the population of the elderly,is more comprehensive and representative. This paper measures household consumption from the two aspects of consumption rate and consumption structure, comprehensively studies the impact of population age structure on household consumption demand and consumption structure upgrading, and conducts a comparative analysis of households with different income levels. This paper also uses the grey relational analysis method to analyze the relation between population age structure and household consumption.
