Major setting is the primary link and core component of talent training in colleges and universities,and its quality affects the connotative development of higher education.As an underdeveloped area of education,Guangxi has a long way to go in realizing the connotative development of higher education.Using the methods of literature analysis,statistical analysis and interview survey,this study discusses the theme of undergraduate major setting of ordinary universities of Guangxi from the aspects of the characteristics of major setting,existing problems and their causes,including the optimization countermeasures of major setting,in order to be beneficial to promoting the connotative development of higher education in Guangxi.Through analysis,the undergraduate major setting of ordinary universities of Guangxi in recent ten years has shown the characteristics of closely following the development of the times and pursuing popularity,filling gaps and pursuing characteristics,and closely contacting with local needs;the withdrawal of majors shows a trend from employment oriented change to combined with the needs of running schools.Generally speaking,the undergraduate major setting of ordinary universities of Guangxi is becoming more and more scientific and reasonable.The study found that in recent ten years,there were some problems in the undergraduate major setting of ordinary universities of Guangxi,such as ignoring the orientation of running a school to setting up majors blindly,insufficient coordination between the addition of majors and the needs of the employment structure of the three industries,cancellation of majors in a short time after the addition of majors,paying attention to "addition" and ignoring "subtraction" in major setting,insufficient addition of new agricultural,new medical and new liberal arts majors,and significant accumulation of new engineering majors.The main reasons for the problems are the insufficient supply of information services of government departments,the imperfect rights and responsibilities,reward and punishment system of major setting,the lack of information feedback mechanism of talent market,the guidance of market demand-oriented environment,the deviation of the concept of major setting in ordinary universities,and the improper implementation of major setting links.In order to enhance the scientific rationality of major setting and solve the problems existing in undergraduate major setting of ordinary universities of Guangxi,the government,society and colleges need to work together.First of all,the government should strengthen the sense of service,the society should improve the sense of participation,and ordinary universities need to optimize the subject consciousness of major setting,so as to gather consensus and guide major setting with scientific ideas.Secondly,all subjects need to improve the access mechanism,guidance mechanism before major setting,dynamic adjustment mechanism,reward and punishment mechanism,early warning and exit mechanism after major setting,so as to ensure the efficient operation of major setting work system.Finally,the government strengthens the professional quality supervision at all stages,the society provides various resource support,and ordinary universities integrate all-round training resources to promote the improvement of professional training quality and promote the connotative development of majors.
