| This practical report selects the construction engineering part of the “Shire Valley Transformation Program Bidding Documents” for translation practice, and the translated material is an English to Chinese translation. The selected chapters contain a wide range of architectural terms, flexible and diverse sentence structures, and possess the essential elements of general bidding documents, which have high translation practice and research value. At the request of the company and the client, the author conducted two translations of the source text, and by comparing the two translations, wrote this practice report. This report is based on the translation practice of the bidding documents, introducing the practice background and stylistic features of the project, compiling and analyzing the problems of comprehension, expression and adaptation encountered by the author in the translation process. In the case analysis section, the specific process of solving the problem is provided, including translation skills, translation tools used, and the thinking process embodied in this process. In order to ensure the translation quality and readability of the translation, the author translates this part of the document with the CEA framework of Prof.Li Changshuan as a guide, and supplemented by other translation theories. The“comprehension” level is analyzed in terms of professional knowledge,macro-thinking and language details;the “expression” level is analyzed in terms of dismantling the subordinate structure, turning passivity into the initiative, and avoiding the Europeanization of Chinese language;the “adaptation” level is analyzed from the perspectives of changing the form of the source text, amplification and omission. The practice report aims to lay the foundation for the author’s future translation work, provide reference for translators engaged in the translation of construction engineering bidding documents, and make a modest contribution to the future research on construction engineering translation. |
