Lu Shuming is a famous film actor and an ambassador of Guan Yu culture. His book,I Met Lord Guan Yu,is a work full of self-examination and retrospection. It recalls the story of his true life and the spirit of “Guan Yu” from trough time to peak time in his 60 years of life. The translated materials are selected from the fourth chapter of I Met Lord Guan Yu,which permeates his questioning and repentance about the essence of life and values, and expresses his sound and abundant spirit and thoughts, providing helpful ways for young people how to make true friends and cultivate their minds. In this translation report, the translator takes Hans Vermeer’s Skopos theory as the theoretical basis, which mainly contains “Skopos rule”,“coherence rule” and “fidelity rule”.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the most important factor determining the translation process is the “purpose of the overall translation action”,and the intended purpose of the translation and the recipient of the translation determines the option of translation strategies. Therefore, the translator should fully consider the great differences between the culture of the source language and the culture of the target language as well as the reading habits of the readers, and elaborate the purpose of translation. From the perspectives of transmitting cultural information and catering to the aesthetic taste of the target language readers, the translator discusses the translation strategies at the lexical, syntactic and textual level in line with Skopos theory. Thus, this translation report provides the basis and reference for other translators to exert their subjective initiative and adopt flexible translation strategies in translation practice.
