Due to the complex indoor space environment, people are very prone to lose their direction in shopping malls, and the information presented in the shopping mall map is diverse and not uniform. The differences of previous studies mainly focus on the effectiveness of text and icon presentation. At the same time, there is a large gap between the experimental scenarios and tasks studied and the actual process of people using maps to find their way,and the ecological validity is low. However, people with different spatial capabilities have different needs for the mall map,and the research content of the map design for people with high and low spatial capabilities is very limited. Therefore, this study explores the influence of different presentations of the guide map on the wayfinding behavior.Experiment 1 attempts to compare the efficiency of wayfinding behavior and the acquisition of spatial knowledge under different landmark representations of the guide map.Using a single factor(presentations of guide map: symbols,symbols+icon,symbols+text,symbols+icon+text)between-subject design,a total of 68 subjects were recruited to complete the guide map reading and memory tasks, wayfinding tasks, and spatial re-cruise tasks.Experiment 2 compared the efficiency of guide map wayfinding behavior and spatial knowledge acquisition of people with high and low spatial abilities under different landmark presentations.Experiment 2 adopts an between-subject experimental design of 2(spatial ability: high spatial ability, low spatial ability)* 4(presentations of guide map: symbols, symbols+icon, symbols+text, symbols+icon+text).A total of 64 subjects are recruited, and the experimental task and process are the same as Experiment 1.Through the above experiments, this study found that(1)the information presented by the guide map group of symbols+text is detailed and not easy to identify, and acquiring spatial knowledge requires higher cognitive load than the guide map group of symbols+icon,symbols+icon+text.(2)The guide map group with text information is more effective than the guide map group with only icons in the wayfinding task. The guide map group with icon information seems to be more conducive to the completion of the space re-cruise task than the guide map group with text information.(3)The people with high spatial ability seem to be better at using fuzzy information to complete wayfinding task, while the people with low spatial ability have worse ability to process fuzzy information and use them to complete directional wayfinding;People with high spatial ability also have higher subjective evaluation on the map with insufficient and fuzzy information than those with low spatial ability.
