The breadth and depth of connection is increasingly becoming the path,purpose and logic of development of the Internet,bringing opportunities for the development of society.However,over-connection is causing social problems,such as information overload,privacy disclosure,algorithm control,etc.When technology occupies the foundation of social life,reflecting on technology has become a part of regular life.Individuals trapped by digital media turn to digital disconnection to restore self-control over digital media use.At the same time,the relaxation and entertainment orientation of media use at night breeds indulgence,digital disconnection before sleep has become an important part of digital disconnection.However,the digital disconnection intention before sleep cannot completely predict disconnection behaviour.Instead,it is limited by multiple factors such as self-regulation,media environment and so on,leading to the contradiction between intention and behaviour,called by "uncontrolled intention" phenomenon in this research.In order to elaborate the phenomenon of "uncontrolled intention" of digital disconnection before sleep and explore its operation process,this research adopts Temporal Self-regulation Theory and takes college students as the research object.Research adopts the qualitative research methods,including non-participant observation,depth interview and group interview to encode the collected text data in three layers for forming a theoretical model to describe the operation process of digital disconnection before sleep.The results showed that intention construction process was the primary stage of digital disconnection.Promoting self-determination of media use and improving survival and development status were college students’ main motivations,beneficial game and value cognition co-weaved intensity of intention.At the middle stage labeled as intention-behaviour transformation process,the dominant mentality and media extension negatively interfered behaviour implementation,while environmental cues,habits and self-regulation influencing the property and degree of intention transformation.At the end stage named results and impact stage of digital disconnection,the results showed a tendency towards digital disconnection failure,and then formed two dealing modes that were restarting disconnection and digesting failure.The forms of disconnection included three types:equipment management,involvement control and group constraint.At the same time,this research focused on the effect of digital disconnection before sleep on the well-being of media use.Research found reduction and contradiction in well-being of media use.It was composed of feedback on media,individual and system,involving negative assessment on media,underestimation on self and urgent expectation on institution.Finally,this research reflected on digital disconnection practice of college students and put forward suggestions by surveying the built model. |
