Vocational education is increasingly crucial in our educational innovation and development,occupying a significant role in social and economic development.But the development of secondary vocational tourism education remains many problematic and the learning and management of students needs to be optimised.Social and Emotional Learning(SEL)first originated in the USA as a way of correcting specific problem behaviours,which can help students get the knowledge and ability to recognise,manage and express their emotions,with promoting positive behaviour and changing their attitude towards study and life.The requirements of “Front Service and Management” course in secondary vocational schools are interlinked with social emotional ability.Therefore,The study aims to apply SEL to the teaching of “Front Service and Management” in vocational schools to maximise its educational function.This study selects students majoring in high star hotel operation and management from Guizhou G Tourism School as the research subjects,and adopting literature survey,questionnaire survey,and interview methods to analyze the current teaching situation,existing problems,and reasons for this course,and finds that the teaching evaluation method of this course is single and students’ self-cognition is weak.Classroom management is not in place,students’ self-management ability is poor;Single teaching process,lack of social consciousness and interpersonal communication guidance;Neglect of ideological and emotional guidance,students weak sense of responsibility.In response to the difficult situation and reasons,Combining the“Social Emotional Learning Curriculum to Implement the Four Links”Teaching Model,the author has developed a teaching design and practice based on SEL.Then,students’ social emotional abilities and classroom teaching situation was investigated once again,and the data before and after the practice was analysed and compared,verifying that the design and practice of the course based on SEL helped students’ self-awareness,self-management,social consciousness,interpersonal communication and social responsibility awareness to develop,which in turn could promote students’ learning and growth.Based on the current situation of the curriculum and the experience and shortcomings in teaching practice,the author raise suggestions on applying SEL to the teaching of “Front Service and Management” in vocational tourism majors,such as proposing the use of multiple assessment mode to cultivate students’ self-cognition,combining autonomy and heteronomy to guide students’ self-management,adopting cooperative and expioratory teaching to optimize students’ social consciousness and interpersonal communication,ang strengthen the guidance of thoughts and emotions to cultivate students’ sense of responsibility.The study can help broaden the scope of research on SEL,and provide reference for integrating SEL into other courses.
