| In the past 40 years, with the rapid development of urbanization,China has gradually transitioned from a "rural China" with low population mobility to a "migratory China" with large-scale and high-frequency population mobility. The seventh national population census data shows that as of the end of 2020,the scale of the floating population in China has reached 376 million,an increase of nearly 70% compared to 10 years ago.The trend of population mobility is more prominent and the scale is further expanding.Behind this trend is not only the emergence of the problem of left behind children, but also the problem of migrant children. For migrant children in the school-age stage, the campus is their main activity venue and an important social institution.Good campus adaptation lays a solid foundation for children’s future development, while poor campus adaptation can lead to a series of problems such as truancy and dropout. Therefore, studying the campus adaptation of migrant children has certain practical significance.Floating children who follow their parents’ mobility must be separated from the social relationships they previously relied on and act as an independent unit.Due to many limitations, these children often find it difficult to enjoy the same resources as urban children, and face more or less academic, behavioral, interpersonal, and emotional issues.Related studies have pointed out that the relationship network dominated by classmates plays an irreplaceable important role, and a good peer group can significantly improve the ability of migrant children to adapt to complex social situations, providing important emotional support for them to successfully pass adolescence.A negative peer group can have a series of negative effects, and these negative effects may persist into adulthood.Based on this, this article uses the data from the China Education Panel Survey(CEPS)from 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015,and uses analysis of variance to compare the differences in campus adaptation among different groups and types of children. At the same time,it analyzes the internal mechanisms by which peer groups influence the campus adaptation of migrant children. The conclusions of this study are as follows:Firstly,in terms of adaptability for migrant children on campus.Firstly, the campus adaptability of female groups is higher than that of male groups.Secondly, the father’s culture, professional class, and family economic status have a positive impact on the school adaptation of migrant children.Secondly,in terms of comparison between migrant children and local children in terms of campus adaptation, the average scores of local children in all dimensions of campus adaptation are higher than the average scores of migrant children, and whether compared in terms of gender, parental education level, parental professional class,or family economic status, the average scores of local children in campus adaptation are higher than the average scores of migrant children. Finally, from the perspective of the impact of peer group on the campus adaptation of migrant children,it can be seen that the size of peer group can significantly improve the campus adaptation of migrant children, but after exceeding a certain number, the size of peer group shows a marginal decreasing trend on the campus adaptation of migrant children; The composition of peer groups also has an impact on the adaptability of migrant children on campus.Specifically, peers with positive behaviors can significantly improve the school adaptation level of migrant children, while peers with negative behaviors damage the school adaptation level of migrant children;Academic performance and family background being relatively advantageous in peer groups can have a positive impact on the school adaptation of migrant children. In addition, the study also found that compared to migrant children, the size of the peer group did not significantly improve the school adaptation level of local children;Positive and negative peer behavior have a greater impact on the campus adaptation of migrant children; The comparison of academic performance and family background has a positive impact on local children’s campus adaptation, and the degree of impact is more significant.Based on the above research findings, this article believes that it is extremely important to pay attention to the influence of peers on the campus adaptation of migrant children, especially the important role of peer participation and peer quality in predicting many aspects of campus adaptation of migrant children. In addition,it is also necessary to focus on cultivating the individual initiative of migrant children and providing them with more encouragement and guidance. This article believes that identifying the peer group of migrant children is not only of great significance for us to answer the practical questions of"what state migrant children present in public schools"and"how migrant children’s peer group affects campus adaptation",but also of great significance for cultivating the good development of migrant children. |
