The theme class meeting is an important way for country to implement quality education and core literacy education.It is an effective form for schools to realize the fundamental task of strengthening morality education.It is not only the magic weapon for head teachers to carry out class management,but also the main position for students to develop good moral concepts,behavior habits and self-education ability.The theme class meeting with distinctive themes,diverse forms,contents close to students’ reality and complete links can not only play the function of education,bur also form the attraction of it,and enhance students’ participation consciousness and enthusiasm.However,the theme class meeting doesn’t work as expected,especially in most rural primary schools.Students frequently suffer from mental health problems,learning problems and so on.The theme class meeting fails to nurture talents.As a specific education provided by head teachers,the theme class meeting deserves our attention and study.This study collates and analyzes the relevant research results of the theme class meeting,and expounds the important value of the effective development of the theme class meeting in rural primary schools based on group dynamics theory and life education theory.This study looks at three rural primary schools in towns and villages of Q city.The questionnaire and interview outline are compiled on the basis of the following three points: first,both staffs’ and students’ understanding of the theme class meeting;second,how the theme class meeting works;third,effect evaluation.The study selects 195 students from Grade Three to Grade Six at random to carry out a questionnaire survey and conducts an interview with 4 head teachers.And four typical teaching fragments are selected from the classroom observation records for detailed analysis.Through data analysis,it is concluded that the following problems exist in the implementation of the theme class meeting of three rural primary schools: the theme class meeting is low frequency and not often held at the right time;The content is far from the students’ real life;The form design is simple and dull;The students’ main body participation is insufficient;The theme class meeting lacks the extension part and is not effective.Therefore,this study analyzes the reasons from the following three points: schools,head teachers and students.First,schools attach little importance to the theme class meeting,thus lacking system guarantee and teacher training.Second,head teachers,with a lack of expertise,are too busy to attend to the theme class meeting.Third,students are not fully aware of how the theme class meeting matters and have no enthusiasm for it.Based on the analysis of the reasons,this study puts forward the optimization strategies accordingly.First,schools can increase the class hours,strengthen supervision and focus on related school-based training to ease the burden of head teachers.Second,head teachers need to provide students with rich content for the theme class meeting and create new forms based on their interests.Third,students will be endowed with the right to participate in the whole process as a way to motivate and inspire them.
