In this paper I attempt; a cautious step into Translation Equivalence (TE) from the perspective of cohesion in English. The attention in this paper is not only paid to cohesive devices in English but to how a translator can produce the closest, most natural target text equivalence between the language of English and Chinese from the perspective of cohesion in English. After a brief introduction of the issue of TE and the aim of the paper, the paper roughly falls into five chapters. Chapter I mainly talks about cohesion in English. There exist many cohesive devices in English, which have been discussed previously by many linguists. The examples in the beginning chapter may make readers aware of the importance of cohesion in English in producing the closest and most natural equivalent texts. The following three chapters unfold TE from three perspectives, i.e. the perspective of lexico-grammatical cohesion, semantic cohesion and semiotic cohesion. The final chapter winds up the whole paper and concludes that the awareness of cohesion in English can somewhat help translators avoid producing Chinglish texts and westernized Chinese texts.
