The C-E translation of Chinese new words has been an issue of great importance as well as of much debate. This paper adopts a rhetoric perspective in the study of the translation of Chinese new words and makes a systematic rhetoric analysis and research of the new Chinese economic and political words. The writer of this paper believes that the rhetoric features, i.e., the figures of speech should be a major concern in the translation of the new Chinese economic and political words, and efforts should be made to reserve these features. The paper studies the rhetoric devices used in the creation of the new Chinese economic and political words and comments on the translation of these words China Daily provides. The paper endeavours to put forward a series of principles for the C-E translation of the new Chinese economic and political words by employing Newmark's theory on the three functions of language. Guided by these principles, the paper suggests a set of practical methods for the translation of the new Chinese economic and political words with a view of reserving the rhetoric features in the C-E translation of these new words, and, in turn, achieving the full equivalence and effectiveness of the translation.
