As China's opening up and entering WTO, tourism meets its rapid development in China. The coming 2008 Olympic Games will bring tourism a new prosperity. Frequent tourism activities are attracting more and more international tourists, encouraging people from different backgrounds to conduct intercultural communication and increasing exchanges between China and other countries. At the same time, the development of tourism sets higher requirement for the translation of tourist materials. How to improve the quality of tourism translation, especially the translation of scenic spots introduction which is typically culture-loaded is an urgent problem we are facing now. Focusing on the errors arisen from inexplicit translation purpose, this thesis conducts a tentative research on the C-E translation of scenic spots introduction texts from the perspective of Skopostheorie, aiming at discovering proper translation strategy, principles and specific methods to improve the translation quality.Based on action theory, Skopostheorie holds that every translation activity has its certain purposes; different translation strategies are determined by different "Skopos" and communicative functions. This theory starts from translation Skopos and puts emphasis on the function of translation. At the same time it stresses the essentiality of source-text analysis, thus providing a theoretical foundation for translating various kinds of pragmatic texts.This study analyzes C-E translation of scenic spots introduction texts by qualitative method. Directed by Skopostheorie and Texttypology of functionalism, this thesis draws the conclusion by combining with two kinds of translation type of Nord on the basis of contrastive study of Chinese and English scenic spots introductions. Leading by its operative function, scenic spots introduction is a kind of pragmatic text with explicit communicative purpose. Meanwhile, the rich culture points in it affect the acceptability of the target addressees. Therefore, we should always bear the communicative purpose in mind during the translation process; translate the texts by using different methods flexibly under the guidance of translation strategy and principles, thus to realize the function of the text at a maximal extent.
