With the development of the New Curriculum Reform in the 21st century, the coherence of the modern prose teaching in junior school and high school has achieved great success. But there are still many problems in the coherence of the modern prose teaching in junior school and high school. This thesis studies the coherence of the modern prose in both form and content. The author analyzes and explores the text exercises of modern prose presented in the textbooks of junior high school, the previous textbooks and the new textbooks of senior high school. From the analysis, the author comes to the conclusion that the coherence of modern prose should be realized in the aspects of the basic concept, structural frame, value orientation, basic knowledge, reading appreciation and writing in the text exercises . Therefore, this thesis will analyse the text exercises of three versions of textbooks to find out their respective characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, to reflect the coherence of modern prose in both form and content and to propose proper suggestions.This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction which states the reasons why the author does the research, the significance of the research and the methods of the research. Chapter 2 analyses the text exercises in the current Junior school Chinese books,former PEP and new textbooks high school Chinese books in the respects of the structures, concepts and quantities, and summarize the features of the text exercises of these 3 sets books. Chapter 3 summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the text exercises of the Junior and High school Chinese books. Chapter 4 discusses the coherence of the text exercises of Junior and High school in the respects of the form and concept, and gives the suggestions. Chapter 5 summarizes the whole thesis.
